Day 0: Arrival in Tanzania- Dar es Salaam (Optional)

If you have chosen to be picked-up by us from Julius Kambarage Nyerere International Airport, you will be picked up from the airport by a Kilele Climb representative and conveyed to your accommodation in Dar es Salaam where you will overnight, relax, and prepare in anticipation of the adventures to come, restore and enjoy your first taste of Africa.

Day 1: Drive from Dar es salaam to Mikumi National park

  • Distance & Drive time: Dar es Salaam to Mikumi takes about 6 to 6.5 hours (303 km/188mi)

After breakfast, your Drive guide will pick you up at your hotel/Airport and you will drive to Mikumi national park. This is a 6 hours’ drive and upon arrival, you do your first evening game drive in the park until Sunset. Mikumi’s open horizons and abundant wildlife draw frequent comparisons to the more famous Serengeti Plains. The park has a great variety of animals and most visitors come to Mikumi national park aiming to spot the ‘Big Five’ – Leopard, lion, elephant, buffalo, and rhino. The chance that you will encounter lions climbing up trees is here higher than in other parks! Dinners and overnight at your lodge.

Day 2: Full day game drive in Mikumi National Park

Today you have the entire day to explore more of Mikumi national park on a full-day game drive, a hot lunch will be served in the park around midday, followed by some leisure time before you go on another game drive until sunset. Mikumi national park is excellent for wildlife viewing. Lions survey their grassy kingdom and the zebra, wildebeest, impala, and buffalo herds that migrate across it, from the flattened tops of termite mounds, or sometimes during the rains, from perches high in the trees. Giraffes forage in the isolated acacia stands that fringe the Mkata River, islets of shade favored also by Mikumi’s elephants.

Mkata flood plain is perhaps the most reliable in Tanzania for sighting the powerful eland, the world’s largest antelope. The equally impressive greater kudu and sable antelope haunt the miombo at your lodge.

Day 3: Mikumi to Ruaha National Park & Afternoon game drive

  • Distance & Drive time: Dar es Salaam to Mikumi takes about 5.5 to 6 hours (320 km/200mi)

After breakfast, you will leave Mikumi national park to drive to Ruaha national park. This is 5 hours’ drive and upon arrival, you will do an afternoon game drive to explore Tanzania’s second-largest national park!

The great Ruaha River flows through Ruaha national park and is the most important river in the park. Since it has a huge population of African elephants, chances are very good to spot large groups of them roaming around. It is probably home to more elephants than any other park in East Africa and it has nearly 10% of Africa’s lion population.

Day 4: Full day game drive in Ruaha National Park

On today’s game drive through Ruaha national park you will probably notice the big variety of plants and trees. It is mainly characterized by its acacias and the many baobab trees. There are over 1,650 plant species that have been identified in total.

Besides Ruaha’s huge population of African elephants, it is also home to great mammals like Kudu, sable, and roan antelopes which cannot be found in any other national park. Other animals to spot here include leopards, cheetahs, and giraffes. Many zebras, elands, impala, bat-eared foxes, and jackals live in the park.

With a bit of luck, you may also see the endangered wild dogs in Ruaha national park!

Day 5: Ruaha National Park – Airport

In the early morning, you can make the sunrise game drive in Ruaha National Park then you will be back to your lodge for breakfast, after breakfast you will do a game drive till the afternoon, depending on your accommodation and flight schedule. Then your driver transfers you to the airstrip for your departure flight to Dar es Salaam or Zanzibar.

This is the last leg of your safari, with a 1hr drive left to where your safari will end. With an incredible experience and loads of memories to cherish, this is the time you say goodbye to your safari crew.

    Day 1: Dar es salaam to Selous + Sunset boat trip

    • Distance & Drive time: Dar es Salaam to Nyerere park (Selous) takes about 4 to 5 hours (230 km/142mi)

    After breakfast at 0730hrs, you leave Dar es Salaam and your guide will drive you to Selous Game Reserve. You will have a picnic lunch on the way and travel on to arrival in Selous. We arrive at the camp early in the afternoon, settle in, and we head for a boat safari along the mighty Rufiji River. The river is formed by the confluence of the Kilombero and Luwegu rivers. It is approximately 600 kilometers (370mi) long and here you will see plentiful hippos and crocodiles. The big herds of Tanzanian Elephants are also attracted by the River Rufiji that flows through the reserve. Some 350 bird species can also be found in the Selous Game Reserve.

    There is nothing quite like the serenity of the river while the dips below the horizon.

    Day 2: Full day Selous game reserve

    After breakfast, we depart for the morning and afternoon game drive at the Selous Game Reserve. Selous is home to a large population of elephants, big number of buffalos, and wild dogs. Other species commonly seen are lion, bushbuck, impala, giraffe, eland, baboon, zebra, kudus, and crocodile. You will have all meals and overnight at the same Lodge/Camp.

    Day 3: Walking – Nyerere (Selous) to Mikumi National Park

    • Distance & Drive time: Selous to Mikumi takes about 2 to 3 hours (76 km/47mi)

    After the Breakfast launch, a walking trip in the wilderness accompanied by an armed ranger guide to get close to the animals. You will have a picnic lunch in the bush and there after lunch transfer to Mikumi National park. The park is nestled between the Uluguru Mountains to the northeast and the Rubeho Mountains, Udizungwa Mountain, and Rift Valley escarpment to the southwest. As part of the Selous ecosystem, it benefits from the highest game density of the entire conservation area. Dinner overnight.

        Day 1: Arusha to Tarangire National Park

        • Distance & Drive time: Arusha to Tarangire takes about 2.5 to 3 hours (106 km/65mi)- Tarangire to Karatu takes about 2 hours (110km/68mi)

        Pick up at 7:00 AM from your hotel in Arusha and depart for Tarangire National park with a picnic lunch for a full day game drive. Tanzania’s third largest National park is known for its majestic baobab trees that dot the landscape, dwarfing the animals that feed beneath them. The Tarangire River is the centerpiece of this park which is famous for some of the largest herds of elephants in Africa. Here you may see lion, leopard, cheetah, lesser kudu, buffalo, oryx, eland, giraffe, and zebra. After a full day in the park, we will drive to the camp/Lodge where a delicious dinner awaits you, and spend the night.

        Accommodation:

        Day 2: Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha.

        • Distance & Drive Time: NCA To Arusha takes about 3.5 to 4hours (158km/98mi)

        After an early breakfast you will have a sort drive to the Ngorongoro entrances and few minutes you start descending to 600m down the crater for game drive. The Ngorongoro crater is the world’s largest inactive, intact and unfilled volcanic caldera. It has a massive floor of about 260sq km/161sq mi) with a depth of over 2000 feet. The 6-hours game drive on the crater floor will show you a lot of animal action. Keeping the camera ready is definitely recommended. The African elephant, buffalo, black rhino, hippos, hyenas, cheetahs, and lions are found in plenty. Post the picnic lunch at the beautiful Ngoito Hippo pool, you will begin a steep ascent to the top exit of the crater. This is the last leg of your safari, with a 4hrs drive left to where your safari will end. With an incredible experience and loads of memories to cherish, this is the time you say goodbye to your safari crew.

Your departure can only take place today if you have pre-booked a domestic flight which leaves from Kilimanjaro International Airport at 19.00 hours or after, or an international flight which leaves at 21.00 hours or after. Otherwise, you will need to book an extra night’s accommodation (not included in the tour price) and take a flight the following day.

          Itinerary

          Day 1: Zanzibar to Arusha to Tarangire National park.

          • Distance & Drive time: Arusha to Tarangire takes about 2.5 to 3 hours (106 km/65mi)- Tarangire to Karatu takes about 2hours (95km/59mi)

          In the morning around 6:00am pick up from the hotel (exact pick-up time depends on hotel location) and transfer to Zanzibar Airport. Departure from Znz at 8.00 am and arrival in Arusha around 9.00 am.

          On your arrival you will meet our driver guide and depart for Tarangire National park with a picnic lunch for a full day game drive. Tanzania’s third largest National park is known for its majestic baobab trees that dot the landscape, dwarfing the animals that feed beneath them. The Tarangire River is the centerpiece of this park which is famous for some of the largest herds of elephants in Africa. Here you may see lion, leopard, cheetah, lesser kudu, buffalo, oryx, eland, giraffe, and zebra. After a full day in the park, we will drive to the camp/Lodge where a delicious dinner awaits you, and spend the night.

          Day 2: Ngorongoro Crater

          • Distance & Drive Time: Karatu to NCA takes about 20 minutes to 30 minutes (41km/25mi)

          After an early breakfast, you will have a short of drive to the Ngorongoro entrances, and after a few minutes, you start descending to 600m down the crater for a game drive. The Ngorongoro Crater is almost 600m deep, and approximately 20 km wide and the massive caldera is home to an amazing variety of animals. On your game drive, you have the possibility of seeing all different kinds of mammals ranging from the Big Five – lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino, and leopard – to Grant’s and Thomson’s gazelles and mountain reedbucks. You might also see spotted hyenas, and some of the more than 500 bird species in the area. After a picnic lunch in the crater and some more game viewing, you will leave the crater in the evening and travel back to the tented camp/lodge where you will be spending the second night.

          Day 3: Lake Manyara National Park to Arusha

          • Distance & Time: Lake Manyara to Arusha takes about 2.5 to 3 hours (113 km/70mi)

          You will depart the camp at around 0700hrs and head to Lake Manyara National Park for your final game drive. The park is renowned for its elusive tree-climbing lions and diverse bird life. The shallow and alkaline Lake Manyara covers a large area of the park and it is the seasonal home to thousands of flamingos – an awesome (pink) sight. However, more than 400 other species are also found here as well as some wonderful mammals. Troops of monkeys live in the forests, giraffes, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, and wildebeests on the grassy plains and elephants. After your tour around the beautiful lake and the amazing ground water forest you will be transferred back to Arusha Airport in the afternoon via curio shops where you can some souvenirs to take back home with you.

            After early breakfast at 6:30 am in your hotel/lodge in Arusha, you will be met by your safari driver guide and start your journey toward Serengeti. we will have a short stop at the Rift valley viewpoint and the Ngorongoro crater viewpoint before you arrive on the plain of Serengeti. Today we will enjoy a picnic lunch on Naabi kopje (a small, rocky hill in a generally flat area) where you will have the opportunity to view the Serengeti’s famous pink-headed lizards. After lunch in the afternoon, you do your first game drive spotting animals like lions, leopards, buffalo, dik-dik, Thomson’s gazelle, grant’s gazelle, elephant, impala, giraffe, hippopotamus, and many more. The Serengeti is famous for the yearly migration when hundreds of thousands of wildebeests and zebra trek to find fresh grass and water. The lake is home to many hippos and migratory birds, you will enjoy the visit! Due to the animal “oasis” created within the crater, there is a high possibility of spotting every member of “The Big 5

            The ground comprises some of the strongest animals in Africa-the ferocious lion, The giant elephant, the stealthy Leopard, the charging rhino, and the mighty water buffalo. Ngorongoro crater travels back to Arusha. This is the last leg of your safari, with a 4hrs drive left to Arusha, you will be dropped off at JRO Airport or at your hotel in Arusha by 6:00 pm in the evening when your safari will end. With an incredible experience and loads of memories to cherish, this is the time you say goodbye to your safari crew.

The 6-hours game drive on the crater floor will show you a lot of animal action. Keeping the camera ready is definitely recommended. The African elephant, buffalo, black rhino, hippos, hyenas, cheetahs, and lions are found in plenty. Post the picnic lunch at the beautiful Ngoito Hippo pool, you will begin a steep ascent to the top exit of the crater. This is the last leg of your safari, with a 4hrs drive left to where your safari will end.               Day 1:  Arrival – Arusha

              Arrive at Kilimanjaro airport, you will be picked up from the airport by a Kilele Climb representative and conveyed to your accommodation in Moshi/Arusha where you will overnight, relax, and prepare in anticipation of the adventures to come, restore and enjoy your first taste of Africa. Depending on your arrival time, you may have your pre-safari briefing today; if not, it will take place early tomorrow morning.

              Pick up at 7:00 AM from your hotel in Arusha and depart for Tarangire National park with a picnic lunch for a full day game drive. Tanzania’s third largest National park is known for its majestic baobab trees that dot the landscape, dwarfing the animals that feed beneath them. The Tarangire River is the centerpiece of this park which is famous for some of the largest herds of elephants in Africa. Here you may see lion, leopard, cheetah, lesser kudu, buffalo, oryx, eland, giraffe, and zebra. After a full day in the park, we will drive to the camp/Lodge where a delicious dinner awaits you, and spend the night.

              Pick up at 7:00 AM from your hotel in Arusha and depart for Lake Manyara National park with a picnic lunch for a full day game drive. The park is renowned for its elusive tree-climbing lions and diverse bird life. The shallow and alkaline Lake Manyara covers a large area of the park and it is the seasonal home to thousands of flamingos an awesome (pink) sight. However, more than 400 other species are also found here as well as some wonderful mammals. Troops of monkeys live in the forests, giraffes, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, and wildebeests on the grassy plains and elephants.
