This is a perfect safari combination to explore three of the southern national parks in Tanzania. Mikumi national park has a great variety of animals like the ‘Big Five’ and the chance that you will encounter lions climbing up trees is greater here than in other parks! Ruaha national park is not only the second-largest park but is probably home to more elephants than any other national park in East Africa. And Selous Game Reserve is Tanzania’s largest park. Due to its wildlife diversity and undisturbed nature even a UNESCO World Heritage Site!

Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Tanzania- Dar es Salaam (Optional)
If you have chosen to be picked-up by us from Julius Kambarage Nyerere International Airport, you will be picked up from the airport by a Kilele Climb representative and conveyed to your accommodation in Dar es Salaam where you will overnight, relax, and prepare in anticipation of the adventures to come, restore and enjoy your first taste of Africa
Day 2: Drive from Dar es Salaam to Selous / Sunset boat trip
- Distance & Drive time: Dar es Salaam to Nyerere park (Selous) takes about 4 to 5 hours (230 km/142mi)
After breakfast at 0730hrs, you leave Dar es Salaam and your driver-guide will drive you to Selous Game Reserve. You will have a picnic lunch on the way and travel on to arrive in Selous. We arrive at the camp early in the afternoon, settle in, and we head for a boat safari along the mighty Rufiji River. The river is formed by the confluence of the Kilombero and Luwegu rivers. It is approximately 600 kilometers (370mi) long and here you will see plentiful hippos and crocodiles. The big herds of Tanzanian Elephants are also attracted by the River Rufiji that flows through the reserve. Some 350 bird species can also be found in the Selous Game Reserve. There is nothing quite like the serenity of the river while the sun dips below the horizon.

Day 3: Full day in Selous Game reserve

Breakfast in your accommodation followed by both morning and afternoon game drives in the reserve. Selous is home to a large population of elephants, a big number of buffalos, and wild dogs. Other species commonly seen are lion, bushbuck, impala, giraffe, eland, baboon, zebra, Kudus, and Crocodile. You will have all meals and overnight at the same Lodge/Camp.

Day 4: Selous – Mikumi National Park -afternoon game drive
- Distance & Drive time: Selous to Mikumi takes about 2 to 3 hours (76 km/47mi)
After breakfast, depart to Mikumi National Park with packed lunch. The Park is nestled between the Uluguru Mountains to the northeast, the Rubeho Mountains, Udzungwa Mountains, and Rift Valley escarpment to the southwest. As part of the Selous ecosystem, it benefits from the highest game density of the entire conservation area. On arrival in the afternoon, game viewing in Mikumi.

5: Full day game drive Mikumi National Park
- Distance & Travel Time: Full Day Game drive
After breakfast depart on a full-day game drive in Mikumi National Park. A hot lunch will be served in the park around midday, followed by some leisure time before you go on another game drive until sunset. Return to the campsite for dinner and your overnight stay.

Day 6: Mikumi to Ruaha National Park & Afternoon game drive
- Distance & Drive time: Mikumi to Ruaha takes about 5 hours (320 km/200mi)
After breakfast, you will leave Mikumi national park to drive to Ruaha national park. This is a 5hours’ drive and upon arrival you can do an afternoon game drive to explore Tanzania’s second-largest park! The Great Ruaha River flows through Ruaha national park and is the most important river in the park. Since it has a huge population of African elephants, chances are very good to spot large groups of them roaming around. It is probably home to more elephants than any other park in East Africa has nearly 10% of Africa’s lion population!

Day 7: Full day game drive in Ruaha National Park

On today’s game drive through Ruaha national park you will probably notice the big variety of
plants and trees. It is mainly characterized by its acacias and the many baobab trees. There are
over 1,650 plant species that have been identified in total.
Besides Ruaha’s huge population of African elephants, it is also home to great mammals like
kudu, sable, and roan antelopes which cannot be found in any other national park. Other animals
to spot here include leopards, cheetahs, and giraffes. Many zebras, elands, impala, bat-eared foxes, and jackals live in the park.
With a bit of luck, you may also see the endangered wild dogs in Ruaha national park!

Day 8: Return to Dar es Salaam
After breakfast, drive back to Dar es Salaam with a picnic lunch on the way where you will arrive in Dar in the evening.
