This is a perfect safari combination to see chimpanzees up close in western Tanzania.

Gombe Stream national park is the famous place where Jane Goodall did her research on chimpanzee populations. It is located on the western border of Tanzania and the Congo. And has 35 km²/21 mi²of protected close by, south of the city of Kigoma. It is the only place where chimpanzees and lions co-exist

Itinerary

Day 1: Dar Es Salaam – Kigoma

In the morning after breakfast, you’ll be driven to Julius Nyerere Airport for your flight to Kigoma. You’ll be picked up on arrival at Kigoma and driven to the Lake Tanganyika Beach hotel for lunch. After lunch, you will visit the Dr. Livingstone memorial at Ujiji village where, under the shade of two historical mango trees, the Caretaker will regale you with tales about Dr. Livingstone and his famous African expedition.

As the day comes to an end, we’ll take you to Kigoma Hilltop Hotel where you can relax and enjoy the views over Lake Tanganyika as the sun goes down.

Day 2: Travel from Kigoma to Mahale Mountains

Pick up from your hotel to Kalilani Village where you will find our guide with boat waiting to transfer you to Mahale. Car transfer from Kigoma town to our boat station is around 4 to 5hrs just close to Mahale Mountains where you will have picnic lunch and then travel with our boat for 2 to 3hrs to Mahale. Arrival Mahale at evening time, take room, enjoy sun set and swimming over Lake Tanganyika. Dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Full Mahale Forest Trekking Safari

After breakfasts. 08h00 start Chimpanzee tracking in the forest. The hikes takes you to the chimp’s habitation areas are accessible and not strenuous, although being in good physical condition will ease the strain of walking through the jungle! Up close, observing the endangered primates is an once-in-a-lifetime experience. Meals and overnight.

Day 5: Mahale to Kigoma Town

Breakfast 07h00, After breakfast followed by boat transfer back to Kalilani Village. Pick up on arrival and drive back to Kigoma town where the tour will end.
