This is a perfect safari combination to visit two of the southern national parks in Tanzania. Mikumi National park has a great variety of animal-like the Big Five and the chance that you will encounter lions climbing up trees is greater here than in another park! Udzungwa National park is known for sightings of the rare Iringa red colobus and the sanje Crested Mangabey. You can find these two types only in this region. Itinerary
Day 0: Arrival in Tanzania- Dar es Salaam (Optional)
If you have chosen to be picked-up by us from Julius Kambarage Nyerere International Airport, you will be picked up from the airport by a Kilele Climb representative and conveyed to your accommodation in Dar es Salaam where you will overnight, relax, and prepare in anticipation of the adventures to come, restore and enjoy your first taste of Africa.
Day 1: Drive from Dar es salaam to Mikumi National park
- Distance & Drive time: Dar es Salaam to Mikumi takes about 6 to 6.5 hours (303 km/188mi)
After breakfast, your Drive guide will pick you up at your hotel/Airport and you will drive to Mikumi national park. This is a 6 hours’ drive and upon arrival, you do your first evening game drive in the park until Sunset.
Mikumi’s open horizons and abundant wildlife draw frequent comparisons to the more famous Serengeti Plains. The park has a great variety of animals and most visitors come to Mikumi national park aiming to spot the ‘Big Five’ – Leopard, lion, elephant, buffalo, and rhino. The chance that you will encounter lions climbing up trees is here higher than in other parks! Dinners and overnight at your lodge.

Day 2: Full day game drive in Mikumi National Park

Today you have the entire day to explore more of Mikumi national park on a full-day game drive, a hot lunch will be served in the park around midday, followed by some leisure time before you go on another game drive until sunset. Mikumi national park is excellent for wildlife viewing. Lions survey their grassy kingdom and the zebra, wildebeest, impala, and buffalo herds that migrate across it, from the flattened tops of termite mounds, or sometimes during the rains, from perches high in the trees. Giraffes forage in the isolated acacia stands that fringe the Mkata River, islets of shade favored also by Mikumi’s elephants.
Mkata flood plain is perhaps the most reliable in Tanzania for sighting the powerful eland, the world’s largest antelope. The equally impressive greater kudu and sable antelope haunt the miombo at your lodge.

Day 3: Udzungwa Mountains National Park/ Hike on the mountains/Waterfalls
- Distance & Drive time: Mikumi to Udzungwa takes about 1.5 to 2 hours (47 km/29mi)
After breakfast you will drive to Udzungwa national park it will take approximately 1.5 hours’ drive, it has various habitats such as tropical rainforest, mountain, and Miombo forest, grassland, and steppe. There are more than 400 species of birds, Thousands of species of plants, and six species of monkeys-including the rare Iringa red colobus and sanje crested mangabey to be found! Besides birds and monkeys watching Udzungwa is a magnet for Hikers. Udzungwa national park has no paved roads and is only accessible on foot. An excellent network of forest trails includes the popular half-day hike to the Luhombero peak and sanje waterfall, which tumbles 170 meters through a misty spray into the wooded valley below. is one of the larger waterfalls in Tanzania and lies hidden from the rest of the world in dense rainforest.
During your hike through the Udzungwa mountains, you will see more variety of wildlife. They are home to many animals, including Abbott’s duiker, Kipunji, and unusual animals such as the grey-faced sangi.

Day 4: Udzungwa Mountains-Dar es salaam/Airport
- Distance & Drive time: Udzungwa to Dar es Salaam takes about 8 to 8.5 hours (337 km/209mi)
After breakfast, you drive back to Dar es salaam and enjoy your lunch at Morogoro Town. Arrival in Dar es salaam late in the evening Approximately at 17:00hrs. This is the last leg of your safari, with an 8hrs drive left to where your safari will end. With an incredible experience and loads of memories to cherish, this is the time you say goodbye to your safari crew.
