Gombe Stream national park is the famous place where Jane Goodall did her research on chimpanzee populations. It is located on the western border of Tanzania and the Congo. And has 35 km2 /21 mi2of protected close by, south of the city of Kigoma. It is the only place where chimpanzees and lions co-exist.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Tanzania- Dar es Salaam (Optional)

If you have chosen to be picked-up by us from Julius Kambarage Nyerere International Airport, you will be picked up from the airport by a Kilele Climb representative and conveyed to your accommodation in Dar es Salaam where you will overnight, relax, and prepare in anticipation of the adventures to come, restore and enjoy your first taste of Africa

Day 2: Dar Es Salaam – Kigoma

In the morning after breakfast, you’ll be driven to Julius Nyerere Airport for your flight to Kigoma. You’ll be picked up on arrival at Kigoma and driven to the Lake Tanganyika Beach hotel for lunch. After lunch, you will visit the Dr. Livingstone memorial at Ujiji village where, under the shade of two historical mango trees, the Caretaker will regale you with tales about Dr. Livingstone and his famous African expedition.

As the day comes to an end, we’ll take you to Kigoma Hilltop Hotel where you can relax and enjoy the views over Lake Tanganyika as the sun goes down.

Day 3: Kigoma – Mahale National Park

In the morning after breakfast, you’ll be driven to Lake Tanganyika for your boat trip to Mahale Mountain National Park. It takes 4 to 6 hours to get from Kigoma town to Mahale Mountain National Park by speed boat and after a packed lunch your guide will take you to the forest for late afternoon chimpanzee tracking.

Day 4 & 5: Mahale Mountain National Park

On day 3 you will take 2.5 hours’ drive and boat ride to Mahale mountains national park. It is a bit larger than its northerly neighbor Gombe and also home to some of Africa’s last remaining wild chimpanzees, a population of roughly 900.

You will spend two full days chimpanzee tracking in Mahale. Chimpanzees normally move in search of food and nest wherever there’s an abundant source such as their favorite fruit. The hikes are led by knowledgeable and experienced guides. Once you meet a resident Chimpanzee group, you have time to observe them. The Chimpanzees are habituated to human visitors and are not shy. Meeting them is a once-in-a-lifetime, magical experience!

Day 6: Mahale – Kigoma

After breakfast picks up for boat departure to Kigoma town. On arrival pick up and transferred to the hotel.

Day 7: Kigoma – Gombe

After breakfast picks up for boat departure to Gombe Stream National park. It is only a 30 minutes’ drive and a 1.5-hour boat ride to the park on arrival pick up and transfer to Gombe Tented Camp where you can relax on the beach.

Gombe is a famous place for those who want to see chimpanzees off the beaten track. You can take a guided hike into the forest to see chimpanzees in the wild. The area has steep valleys and the forest vegetation ranges from grassland to forest and tropical rainforest.

The Gombe Stream national park is the place where Jane Goodall did her research on chimpanzee populations. Step into her footsteps while you walk through the forest on the lookout for a chimpanzee family.

Once you found the chimpanzees you are allowed to observe their daily habits, watch the youngsters play and mothers nurse their babies. Enjoy this rare and intimate glimpse into chimpanzee society!

Day 8: Gombe National Park

Early in the morning after breakfast you’ll visit a waterfall and enjoy another full day of chimp tracking. In the late afternoon, you’ll head back to the beach to enjoy a cool swim in the deepest lake in the world. Once you found the chimpanzees you are allowed to observe their daily habits, watch the youngsters play and mothers nurse their babies. Enjoy this rare and intimate glimpse into chimpanzee society!

    Day 1: Drive from Dar es Salaam to Selous & Sunset boat trip

    • Distance & Drive time: Dar es Salaam to Selous takes about 4 to 5 hours (230 km/142mi)

    After breakfast at 0730hrs, you leave Dar es Salaam and your guide will drive you to Selous Game Reserve. You will have a picnic lunch on the way and travel on to arrival in Selous. We arrive at the camp early in the afternoon, settle in, and we head for a boat safari along the mighty Rufiji River. The river is formed by the confluence of the Kilombero and Luwegu rivers. It is approximately 600 kilometers (370mi) long and here you will see plentiful hippos and crocodiles. The big herds of Tanzanian Elephants are also attracted by the River Rufiji that flows through the reserve. Some 350 bird species can also be found in the Selous Game Reserve.

    There is nothing quite like the serenity of the river while the dips below the horizon.

        After breakfast you will drive to Udzungwa national park it will take approximately 1.5 hours’ drive, it has various habitats such as tropical rainforest, mountain, and Miombo forest, grassland, and steppe. There are more than 400 species of birds, Thousands of species of plants, and six species of monkeys-including the rare Iringa red colobus and sanje crested mangabey to be found! Besides birds and monkeys watching Udzungwa is a magnet for Hikers. Udzungwa national park has no paved roads and is only accessible on foot. An excellent network of forest trails includes the popular half-day hike to the Luhombero peak and sanje waterfall, which tumbles 170 meters through a misty spray into the wooded valley below. is one of the larger waterfalls in Tanzania and lies hidden from the rest of the world in dense rainforest.

        During your hike through the Udzungwa mountains, you will see more variety of wildlife. They are home to many animals, including Abbott’s duiker, Kipunji, and unusual animals such as the grey-faced sangi.

          This program is designed for a full 5-day game drive safari departs from Dar es Salaam, which will take you to the largest game reserve and 2nd largest conservation area in Africa sized at 5,000 square kilometers/3,106 square miles. This is 4 times bigger than the Serengeti and large than the entire country of Denmark.

          Welcome to Nyerere National Park/Selous Game Reserve! This reserve is one of the most remote ones in Tanzania, hence the least visited park in Africa. Because of its elaborate and unique beauty, the Selous has so many safari animals, and thus in history that UNESCO declared it a world heritage in 1982.

          In the morning at 0830hrs pick up from your hotel in Dr es salaam/ Airport and travel to Selous Game Reserve. You will have a picnic lunch on the way and travel on to arrive in Selous in the late afternoon. This is a 5-hour drive and upon arrival, you will do your first game drive in the park. Dinner and overnight at your lodge/campsite

          Day 2: Walking & Boat Excursion in Selous

          After breakfast launch, a walking trip in the wilderness accompanied by an armed ranger guide to getting close to the animals. You will have a picnic lunch in the bush and there after lunch transfer to Rufiji for an afternoon boat excursion, you will reach the Rufiji River that runs through Selous game reserve which you will explore by boat. It is approximately 600 kilometers (370mi) long and here you will see plentiful hippos and crocodiles. The big herds of Tanzanian Elephants are also attracted by the River Rufiji that flows through the reserve

          There is nothing quite like the serenity of the river while the sun dips below the horizon. Evening as the sun goes down the drive will take you back to your accommodation for dinner experience and overnight.

This is a 6 hours’ drive and upon arrival, you do your first evening game drive in the park until Sunset. Mikumi’s open horizons and abundant wildlife draw frequent comparisons to the more famous Serengeti Plains. The park has a great variety of animals and most visitors come to Mikumi national park aiming to spot the ‘Big Five’ – Leopard, lion, elephant, buffalo, and rhino. Mikumi national park is excellent for wildlife viewing. Lions survey their grassy kingdom and the zebra, wildebeest, impala, and buffalo herds that migrate across it, from the flattened tops of termite mounds, or sometimes during the rains, from perches high in the trees. Giraffes forage in the isolated acacia stands that fringe the Mkata River, islets of shade favored also by Mikumi’s elephants.

            Mkata flood plain is perhaps the most reliable in Tanzania for sighting the powerful eland, the world’s largest antelope. The equally impressive greater kudu and sable antelope haunt the miombo at your lodge.

            The great Ruaha River flows through Ruaha national park and is the most important river in the park. Since it has a huge population of African elephants, chances are very good to spot large groups of them roaming around. It is probably home to more elephants than any other park in East Africa and it has nearly 10% of Africa’s lion population.

            Besides Ruaha’s huge population of African elephants, it is also home to great mammals like Kudu, sable, and roan antelopes which cannot be found in any other national park. Other animals to spot here include leopards, cheetahs, and giraffes. Many zebras, elands, impala, bat-eared foxes, and jackals live in the park.

            With a bit of luck, you may also see the endangered wild dogs in Ruaha national park!

            Day 5: Ruaha National Park – Airport

                  Itinerary

                  Day 1: Arusha to Tarangire National Park

                  • Distance & Drive time: Arusha to Tarangire takes about 2.5 to 3 hours (106 km/65mi)- Tarangire to Karatu takes about 2 hours (110km/68mi)

                  Pick up at 7:00 AM from your hotel in Arusha and depart for Tarangire National park with a picnic lunch for a full day game drive. Tanzania’s third largest National park is known for its majestic baobab trees that dot the landscape, dwarfing the animals that feed beneath them. The Tarangire River is the centerpiece of this park which is famous for some of the largest herds of elephants in Africa. Here you may see lion, leopard, cheetah, lesser kudu, buffalo, oryx, eland, giraffe, and zebra. After a full day in the park, we will drive to the camp/Lodge where a delicious dinner awaits you, and spend the night.

                  Accommodation:

                  Day 2: Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha.

                  • Distance & Drive Time: NCA To Arusha takes about 3.5 to 4hours (158km/98mi)

                  After an early breakfast you will have a sort drive to the Ngorongoro entrances and few minutes you start descending to 600m down the crater for game drive. The Ngorongoro crater is the world’s largest inactive, intact and unfilled volcanic caldera. It has a massive floor of about 260sq km/161sq mi) with a depth of over 2000 feet. The 6-hours game drive on the crater floor will show you a lot of animal action. Keeping the camera ready is definitely recommended. The African elephant, buffalo, black rhino, hippos, hyenas, cheetahs, and lions are found in plenty. Post the picnic lunch at the beautiful Ngoito Hippo pool, you will begin a steep ascent to the top exit of the crater. This is the last leg of your safari, with a 4hrs drive left to where your safari will end. With an incredible experience and loads of memories to cherish, this is the time you say goodbye to your safari crew.

                  Please note that the 2 Days Taste of Tanzania Wildlife Safari Tour – ends at Kilimanjaro International Airport at 17.00 hours. Your departure can only take place today if you have pre-booked a domestic flight which leaves from Kilimanjaro International Airport at 19.00 hours or after, or an international flight which leaves at 21.00 hours or after. Otherwise, you will need to book an extra night’s accommodation (not included in the tour price) and take a flight the following day.

                    Itinerary

                    Day 1: Zanzibar to Arusha to Tarangire National park.

                    • Distance & Drive time: Arusha to Tarangire takes about 2.5 to 3 hours (106 km/65mi)- Tarangire to Karatu takes about 2hours (95km/59mi)

                    In the morning around 6:00am pick up from the hotel (exact pick-up time depends on hotel location) and transfer to Zanzibar Airport. Departure from Znz at 8.00 am and arrival in Arusha around 9.00 am.

                    On your arrival you will meet our driver guide and depart for Tarangire National park with a picnic lunch for a full day game drive.                     Day 2: Ngorongoro Crater

                    • Distance & Drive Time: Karatu to NCA takes about 20 minutes to 30 minutes (41km/25mi)

                    After an early breakfast, you will have a short of drive to the Ngorongoro entrances, and after a few minutes, you start descending to 600m down the crater for a game drive. The Ngorongoro Crater is almost 600m deep, and approximately 20 km wide and the massive caldera is home to an amazing variety of animals. On your game drive, you have the possibility of seeing all different kinds of mammals ranging from the Big Five – lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino, and leopard – to Grant’s and Thomson’s gazelles and mountain reedbucks. You might also see spotted hyenas, and some of the more than 500 bird species in the area. After a picnic lunch in the crater and some more game viewing, you will leave the crater in the evening and travel back to the tented camp/lodge where you will be spending the second night.

                    Day 3: Lake Manyara National Park to Arusha

                    • Distance & Time: Lake Manyara to Arusha takes about 2.5 to 3 hours (113 km/70mi)

                    You will depart the camp at around 0700hrs and head to Lake Manyara National Park for your final game drive. The park is renowned for its elusive tree-climbing lions and diverse bird life. The shallow and alkaline Lake Manyara covers a large area of the park and it is the seasonal home to thousands of flamingos – an awesome (pink) sight. However, more than 400 other species are also found here as well as some wonderful mammals. Troops of monkeys live in the forests, giraffes, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, and wildebeests on the grassy plains and elephants. After your tour around the beautiful lake and the amazing ground water forest you will be transferred back to Arusha Airport in the afternoon via curio shops where you can some souvenirs to take back home with you.
