Karatu Simba Lodge is located approximately four kilometers from the main road to the entry of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and is a 30-minute drive from the gate of Lake Manyara National Park.

Accommodations

Accommodation at Karatu Simba Lodge consist of individual twin, double or triple cottages or rondavels with canvas walls, each with its own solid attached bathroom and shower. The rooms are tastefully and simply decorated with hand-made furniture of African hardwood, and each unit has its own deck with safari chairs for relaxing and viewing the pastoral setting. You may even spot a troop of baboons foraging in the recently harvested barley fields or local cowboys tending their herds. Fall asleep to the call of the bush baby and Montane nightjar.

All rooms have a view of the forest, fields and far distant hills. At Karatu Simba, the rooms are beautifully and simply decorated with local fabrics and hard wood furniture, and each bed has a mosquito net. Full amenities are provided, and the rooms are solar-powered with solar-heated water. There is a power strip for battery charging, and each room has a torch (flashlight) and umbrella for your use during your stay with us.

A whistle is also provided in case you need to alert the security guards. As the solar lighting may be dimmer than you’re used to, we highly recommend that you bring a headlamp or “book light” for reading in bed at night.

Due to our solar electrical system, it’s not possible to use a hair dryer at Karatu Simba. We kindly request that you don’t attempt to plug in a hair dryer, as it will most likely blow the system, resulting in a loss of power to the entire lodge.

About this Property

Ngorongoro Farm House is a small and exclusive hotel built on a 500-acre coffee plantation, located in Tanzania. The hotel has been designed to provide colonial style and comfort. It features hand plaited thatched roof tops, ample verandas, and colonial interiors to take you back in time.

While staying at Ngorongoro Farm House, you can take a walk around the farm to contemplate the daily activities, relax in the fragrant gardens, or enjoy the spectacular sunsets with the Oldeani volcano as a backdrop. This hotel is a wonderful stop-off during a safari on the north circuit of Tanzania, and it’s a privileged place from where you can visit the crater or enjoy activities such as walking safaris to the volcano or excursions to Lake Eyasi on the Rift Valley, still inhabited by the Hadzabe tribe.

The Manor Cottages

Each of 18 Manor Cottage Suites has its own private entrance, and adjoining private sun terrace. A double open-fronted log-burning fireplace divides a room interior that mirrors the traditional Cape Dutch architecture. The en suite bath and shower room possesses a Victorian-style claw-footed bath, as well as twin vanity basins and large ‘rainfall’ shower.

Stable Cottage

The Stable Cottage is the family cottage, located to the rear of the riding stables, separate from the main Manor house. In the mornings, breakfast can be served, if requested, in the adjacent courtyard. The Stable Cottage also possesses a small separate dining area, with a lounge and fireplace that can be used for intimate and private dinners and lunches.

Stable Cottage is divided into two floors. On the ground floor you will discover a richly-furnished Master Bedroom and a Twin Bedroom, each with their own individual bathrooms. Each bathroom boasts a luxurious Victorian bath, rain shower and a fireplace, the latter of which can be lit on request. On this same floor there is a beautifully appointed joint Family Lounge area which serves as a perfect place to gather and share stories of the day’s events and to plan the adventures to come.

Heading upstairs to the Stable Cottage’s second level, one enters the children’s domain comprising of a Children’s Twin Room, a ‘Toddlers Bathroom’ and a satellite TV Playroom.

The Stable Cottage is the ideal location to accommodate a family or group of friends in comfort and privacy during a stay at The Manor at Ngorongoro.
