Summit Africa’s highest peak, then unwind on Zanzibar’s white sands.
Duration: 9 Days
Embark on an unforgettable adventure with our 9Day Kilimanjaro Rongai Route & Zanzibar Beach Holiday. Conquer Africa’s highest freestanding mountain via the Rongai Route, the only trail approaching Kilimanjaro from the north. Known for its tranquil paths, fewer crowds, and breathtaking views over the Kenyan plains, Rongai offers a gradual ascent that maximizes your chance of reaching Uhuru Peak, the “Roof of Africa.” Over six days, trek through pristine rainforest, moorlands, and alpine desert before standing proudly at the summit. After celebrating your climb, fly to the exotic island of Zanzibar. Explore the UNESCOlisted Stone Town, wander spice plantations rich with nutmeg and cinnamon, and unwind on the pristine white sands of Kendwa Beach. This journey blends adrenaline, culture, and pure relaxation.
Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport, where our team greets you and transfers you to your hotel in Moshi. This day is dedicated to preparation and anticipation. You’ll meet your professional mountain guide for a detailed pretrek briefing, covering the Rongai Route, acclimatization strategies, and safety protocols. Equipment checks ensure you’re fully prepared, with rental gear available if needed. The evening is yours to relax, enjoy a hearty dinner, and soak in the excitement of the adventure ahead.
After breakfast, drive 2–3 hours through villages and coffee plantations to Rongai Gate. Begin trekking on a wide path through maize and potato fields before entering montane forest. The trail climbs gently but consistently, offering sightings of wildlife such as colobus monkeys and tropical birds. By afternoon, the forest thins and Simba Camp emerges with sweeping views over the Kenyan plains. Dinner and overnight at camp, where the crisp mountain air sets the tone for the days ahead.
Wake early for a steady ascent across moorland. Stop at Second Cave for lunch, enjoying views of Mawenzi Peak. Leave the main trail and follow a smaller path toward Mawenzi’s side peak, trekking through rugged terrain. Arrive at Kikelewa Camp in a sheltered valley, surrounded by dramatic landscapes. Dinner and overnight here, with time to rest and absorb the beauty of Kilimanjaro’s northern slopes. This day builds endurance and acclimatization, preparing you for higher altitudes.
After breakfast, tackle a short but steep climb up grassy slopes. The effort is rewarded with superb allround views of the wilderness. Vegetation fades as you ascend into semidesert terrain. Arrive at Mawenzi Tarn Hut, nestled in a spectacular cirque beneath Mawenzi’s towering spires. The camp offers breathtaking scenery, including a small alpine lake. Lunch, rest, and dinner follow, with time to acclimatize and enjoy the dramatic setting.
Cross the lunar desert of the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo. The stark alpine desert landscape is aweinspiring, with vast expanses stretching endlessly. Arrive at Kibo Hut by midday, rest, and prepare for the summit attempt. Guides provide final instructions, ensuring you’re ready for the midnight climb. Dinner is served early, followed by rest, as anticipation builds for the ultimate ascent.
Wake at midnight for a light breakfast before beginning the summit push. Ascend steep switchbacks to Gilman’s Point, reaching the crater rim at dawn. Continue to Uhuru Peak, the “Roof of Africa,” arriving for sunrise over glaciers and endless plains. Celebrate with photos before descending to Kibo Hut for rest and lunch, then onward to Horombo Hut for overnight recovery. This day is the most demanding yet the most rewarding, offering memories that last a lifetime.
After a welldeserved sleep, enjoy breakfast before beginning the final descent. Trek through moorlands and lush rainforest, stopping at Mandara Hut for lunch. Continue to Marangu Gate, where you’ll sign out and receive your summit certificate. A vehicle transfers you to Kilimanjaro Airport for your flight to Zanzibar. Upon arrival, meet our representative and transfer to your hotel. The remainder of the day is at leisure, allowing you to relax and soak in the island’s tropical atmosphere.
After breakfast, embark on a guided tour of Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore labyrinthine alleys, historic mosques, and iconic Zanzibar doors. Visit the House of Wonders and Arab Fort, immersing yourself in the island’s rich history. After lunch, head to the spice plantations, where the aroma of nutmeg, cinnamon, and cloves fills the air. In the evening, transfer to your beach hotel for dinner and overnight.
Spend the day unwinding at Zanzibar’s pristine beaches. Relax on powdersoft sands, swim in crystalclear waters, or indulge in snorkeling and scuba diving. This idyllic setting is perfect for couples, families, and solo travelers alike. Enjoy fresh seafood, tropical cocktails, and the laidback island vibe.
Another full day to enjoy Zanzibar’s coastal paradise. Stroll along the shoreline, take a dhow cruise, or simply relax by the pool. The turquoise waters and romantic sunsets make this day unforgettable.
On your final day, enjoy a leisurely breakfast and soak up the last rays of sunshine. Stroll along the beach or relax by the pool before lunch. In the afternoon, meet your driver for transfer to Zanzibar International Airport for your onward flight. Depart with unforgettable memories of conquering Kilimanjaro and unwinding on Zanzibar’s beaches — the perfect blend of adventure and relaxation.
