Tour Highlights
At 4,566m, Mount Meru is Tanzania’s second-highest mountain and the fifth-highest in Africa. Its dramatic horseshoe-shaped crater, formed by a volcanic eruption 250,000 years ago, creates one of the continent’s most striking landscapes.
Why Choose Mount Meru?
Mount Meru’s dramatic horseshoe-shaped crater, lush rainforests, and alpine desert landscapes make this trek a perfect blend of wilderness and adventure.
Arrive in Moshi/Arusha at least one day before the trek. Optional airport transfers are available. Meet your guide for a comprehensive briefing, equipment check, and gear rental if needed.
Trek through acacia forest grasslands, spotting giraffes and buffalo. Highlights include Maio Falls and the famous Fig Tree Arch. Arrive at Miriakamba Hut for tea, snacks, and a restful evening.
Climb steep wooden steps through misty rainforest to Mgongo wa Tembo (Elephant’s Back) viewpoint. Continue to Saddle Hut, where vegetation shifts to heather and moorland. Optional hike to Little Meru (3,801m) offers panoramic views of Kilimanjaro and Arusha National Park.
Start at midnight with headlamps guiding the way to Rhino Point (3,821m). Scramble along the crater rim to reach the summit at sunrise, where you’ll witness Kilimanjaro glowing in the morning light. Descend via Saddle Hut for refreshments, then continue to Miriakamba Hut for a well-earned rest.
Trek along the northern route, with final chances to spot giraffes, elephants, and colobus monkeys. At Momella Gate, bid farewell to your crew before transferring back to Moshi/Arusha.
