Tour Highlights
At 4,566m, Mount Meru is Tanzania’s second-highest mountain and the fifth-highest in Africa. Its dramatic horseshoe-shaped crater was formed by a volcanic eruption 250,000 years ago, creating one of the most striking landscapes on the continent.
Why Choose Mount Meru?
Mount Meru’s dramatic horseshoe-shaped crater, lush rainforests, and alpine desert landscapes make this trek a perfect blend of wilderness and adventure.
Arrive in Moshi/Arusha at least one day before the trek. Optional airport transfers are available. Meet your guide for a comprehensive briefing, equipment check, and gear rental if needed.
Begin your trek in Arusha National Park, walking through acacia forest grasslands where giraffes and buffalo roam. Highlights include Maio Falls and the famous Fig Tree Arch. Arrive at Miriakamba Hut for tea, snacks, and a restful evening.
Climb steep wooden steps through misty rainforest to Mgongo wa Tembo (Elephant’s Back) viewpoint. Continue to Saddle Hut, where vegetation shifts to heather and moorland. Optional hike to Little Meru (3,801m) offers panoramic views of Kilimanjaro and Arusha National Park.
Start at midnight with headlamps guiding the way to Rhino Point (3,821m). Scramble along the crater rim to reach the summit at sunrise, where you’ll witness Kilimanjaro glowing in the morning light. Descend via Saddle Hut for refreshments, then continue to Momella Gate. Transfer back to Moshi/Arusha for leisure.
