The Materuni Waterfall is one of the most impressive cascades near Kilimanjaro National Park, plunging 70 meters into a natural basin. Located at 2,500 m above sea level in Materuni village (38 km from Moshi), it offers breathtaking views of Kibo Peak and Moshi town on clear days.
Materuni is home to the Chagga tribe, and remains an authentic cultural village. Beyond the waterfall, visitors can enjoy botanical gardens, birdlife, colobus monkeys, and scenic landscapes. A 30-minute guided hike through lush vegetation leads to the waterfall, where you can swim in the natural pool and immerse yourself in pristine nature.

Day 1
Moshi – Materuni – Moshi
- Travel time: 45 minutes each way
- Pickup from your hotel at 08:00 am.
- Drive to Materuni village, near coffee plantations.
- Guided hike to the 90 m high Materuni Waterfall. Enjoy swimming in the natural pool and photographing the lush surroundings.
- Experience traditional coffee-making with the Chagga people — from bean processing to tasting freshly brewed coffee.
- Witness a demonstration of banana beer (Mbege) brewing and sample the local drink.
- Return to Moshi by late afternoon.
Time at destination: Approx. 8 hours (08:30–17:00).
