From the Roof of Africa to Tanzania’s untamed wilderness.
Duration: 11 Days
Embark on an extraordinary journey that blends the thrill of summiting Mount Kilimanjaro with the romance of a classic Tanzanian safari. Conquer Africa’s highest peak via the Rongai Route — the only trail approaching from the north, offering tranquil paths, fewer crowds, and breathtaking views over the Kenyan plains. With its gradual ascent and diverse landscapes, this route maximizes your chances of reaching Uhuru Peak while immersing you in pristine wilderness.
After standing triumphantly on the “Roof of Africa,” transition seamlessly into a 3day luxury safari across northern Tanzania. Witness vast elephant herds beneath the baobabs of Tarangire, descend into the dramatic Ngorongoro Crater for Big Five encounters, and marvel at the flamingofilled shores of Lake Manyara.
This adventure is crafted for travelers who demand more than a trek — it’s a onceinalifetime blend of adrenaline, exclusivity, and unforgettable wildlife encounters. Every detail, from professional guides to handpicked lodges, is designed to deliver comfort, safety, and memories that will last forever.
Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport, where our team greets you with a warm welcome and transfers you to your hotel in Moshi/Arusha. This day is dedicated to preparation and anticipation. You’ll meet your professional mountain guide for a detailed pretrek briefing, covering the Rongai Route, acclimatization strategies, and safety protocols. Equipment checks ensure you’re fully prepared, with rental gear available if needed. The evening is yours to relax, enjoy a hearty dinner, and soak in the excitement of the adventure ahead.
After breakfast, drive 2–3 hours through villages and coffee plantations to Rongai Gate. Begin trekking on a wide path through maize and potato fields before entering montane forest. The trail climbs gently but consistently, offering sightings of wildlife such as colobus monkeys and tropical birds. By afternoon, the forest thins and Simba Camp emerges with sweeping views over the Kenyan plains. Dinner and overnight at camp, where the crisp mountain air sets the tone for the days ahead.
Wake early for a steady ascent across moorland. Stop at Second Cave for lunch, enjoying views of Mawenzi Peak. Leave the main trail and follow a smaller path toward Mawenzi’s side peak, trekking through rugged terrain. Arrive at Kikelewa Camp in a sheltered valley, surrounded by dramatic landscapes. Dinner and overnight here, with time to rest and absorb the beauty of Kilimanjaro’s northern slopes. This day builds endurance and acclimatization, preparing you for higher altitudes.
After breakfast, tackle a short but steep climb up grassy slopes. The effort is rewarded with superb allround views of the wilderness. Vegetation fades as you ascend into semidesert terrain. Arrive at Mawenzi Tarn Hut, nestled in a spectacular cirque beneath Mawenzi’s towering spires. The camp offers breathtaking scenery, including a small alpine lake. Lunch, rest, and dinner follow, with time to acclimatize and enjoy the dramatic setting.
Spend an extra day at Mawenzi Tarn to strengthen acclimatization. After breakfast, hike toward Mawenzi Peak, gaining altitude while enjoying stunning views of Kilimanjaro’s rugged terrain. Return to camp for lunch and spend the afternoon resting, journaling, or photographing the dramatic cirque. Dinner and overnight at Mawenzi Tarn. This day is crucial for summit success, allowing your body to adapt to thinner air while immersing you in unforgettable alpine scenery.
Cross the lunar desert of the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo. The stark alpine desert landscape is aweinspiring, with vast expanses stretching endlessly. Arrive at Kibo Hut by midday, rest, and prepare for the summit attempt. Guides provide final instructions, ensuring you’re ready for the midnight climb. Dinner is served early, followed by rest, as anticipation builds for the ultimate ascent.
Wake at midnight for a light breakfast before beginning the summit push. Ascend steep switchbacks to Gilman’s Point, reaching the crater rim at dawn. Continue to Uhuru Peak, the “Roof of Africa,” arriving for sunrise over glaciers and endless plains. Celebrate with photos before descending to Kibo Hut for rest and lunch, then onward to Horombo Hut for overnight recovery. This day is the most demanding yet the most rewarding, offering memories that last a lifetime.
After a welldeserved sleep, enjoy breakfast before beginning the final descent. Trek through moorlands and lush rainforest, stopping at Mandara Hut for lunch. Continue to Marangu Gate, where you’ll sign out and receive your summit certificate. Transfer back to Moshi for a celebratory evening. This day is filled with pride and reflection, marking the successful completion of your Kilimanjaro climb.
Depart early for Tarangire, a 4–4.5 hour drive through scenic landscapes. Spend the day on safari in Tanzania’s thirdlargest park, famous for giant baobabs and massive elephant herds. Spot lions, leopards, cheetahs, and over 500 bird species. Picnic lunch inside the park keeps you energized. In the evening, drive to Karatu village for dinner and overnight at a lodge.
After breakfast, descend 600m into Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This natural amphitheater is home to over 30,000 animals, including the Big Five. Spot black rhinos, hippos, zebras, and predators like lions and hyenas. Enjoy a picnic lunch inside the crater before ascending back to Karatu village for dinner and overnight. The crater’s density of wildlife makes this one of the most unforgettable safari experiences in Africa.
After breakfast, drive 30 minutes to Lake Manyara National Park. Explore diverse habitats, from groundwater forests to open plains. Spot treeclimbing lions, elephants, giraffes, and thousands of flamingos on the alkaline lake. Picnic lunch is served in the park. In the afternoon, drive 4 hours back to Moshi/Arusha, arriving by evening. Optional souvenir stops en route. Tour ends at Kilimanjaro Airport at 17:00.
