5 Days Top Notch Walking safari Mikumi & Nyerere (Selous) Tour Overview This is a perfect safari combination to explore two of the southern national parks in Tanzania. Selous Game Reserve is Tanzania’s largest park. Due to its Wildlife diversity and undisturbed nature even a UNESCO World Heritage site! And Mikumi National Park has a great variety of animals like the ‘Big five’ and the chance that you will encounter lions climbing up trees is greater here than in other parks. Walking safari in Selous offers the thrilling chance to encounter the bush and wildlife on its terms alongside expert ranger guides. A walking safari in Selous Game Reserve needn't all be hard work. The best safaris involve as much quiet observation and reflection as walking. Creep silently along paths swept by the feet of large animals to discover secret watering holes. Day 1:Dar es salaam to Selous + Sunset boat trip Distance & Drive time: Dar es Salaam to Selous takes about 4 to 5 hours (230 km/142mi) After breakfast at 0730hrs, you leave Dar es Salaam and your guide will drive you to Selous Game Reserve. You will have a picnic lunch on the way and travel on to arrival in Selous. We arrive at the camp early in the afternoon, settle in, and we head for a boat safari along the mighty Rufiji River. The river is formed by the confluence of the Kilombero and Luwegu rivers. It is approximately 600 kilometers (370mi) long and here you will see plentiful hippos and crocodiles. The big herds of Tanzanian Elephants are also attracted by the River Rufiji that flows through the reserve. Some 350 bird species can also be found in the Selous Game Reserve. There is nothing quite like the serenity of the river while the dips below the horizon. Meals plan: Lunch & Dinner included Day 2: Full day Selous game reserve Distance & Drive time: Full Day Game Drive After breakfast, we depart for the morning and afternoon game drive at the Selous Game Reserve. Selous is home to a large population of elephants, big number of buffalos, and wild dogs. Other species commonly seen are lion, bushbuck, impala, giraffe, eland, baboon, zebra, kudus, and crocodile. You will have all meals and overnight at the same Lodge/Camp. Meals plan: Breakfast Lunch & Dinner included Day 3: Walking –Selous- Mikumi National Park Distance & Drive time: Selous to Mikumi takes about 4 to 5 hours (76 km/47mi) After the Breakfast launch, a walking trip in the wilderness accompanied by an armed ranger guide to get close to the animals. You will have a picnic lunch in the bush and there after lunch transfer to Mikumi National park. The park is nestled between the Uluguru Mountains to the northeast and the Rubeho Mountains, Udizungwa Mountain, and Rift Valley escarpment to the southwest. As part of the Selous ecosystem, it benefits from the highest game density of the entire conservation area. Dinner overnight. Meals plan: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner included Day 4: Full day game drive in Mikumi National Park Distance & Drive time: Full Day Game Drive Today you have the entire day to explore more of Mikumi national park on a full-day game drive, a hot lunch will be served in the park around midday, followed by some leisure time before you go on another game drive until sunset. Mikumi national park is excellent for wildlife viewing. Lions survey their grassy kingdom and the zebra, wildebeest, impala, and buffalo herds that migrate across it, from the flattened tops of termite mounds, or sometimes during the rains, from perches high in the trees. Giraffes forage in the isolated acacia stands that fringe the Mkata River, islets of shade favored also by Mikumi’s elephants. Mkata flood plain is perhaps the most reliable in Tanzania for sighting the powerful eland, the world’s largest antelope. The equally impressive greater kudu and sable antelope haunt the miombo at your lodge. Meals plan: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner included Day 5: Mikumi National Park – Dar es Salaam/airport. Distance & Drive time: Mikumi to Dar es Salaam takes about 6 to 6.5 hours (303 km/188mi) In the early morning, you can make the sunrise game drive in Mikumi National park then you will be back to your lodge for breakfast, after breakfast you will do a game drive till the afternoon, depending on your accommodation and flight schedule. Then you drive back to Dar es Salaam via Morogoro town for your lunch proceeding to Dar es Salaam arrival at 18:00hrs. This is the last leg of your safari, with a 6hrs drive left to where your safari will end.
