Kilimanjaro Rescue procedures sometimes happens that customers can’t continue. In such instances, you will be assisted by our Kilele Climb’s Medical Trained Guide head or assistant guide to return back to the gate or else the chief guide will take care of the matter and leave the group with his assistant to continue.
Kilimanjaro Helicopter Rescue Safety Protocols
Each year, dozens of helicopter rescues are conducted on Mount Kilimanjaro. Our staff is well trained in working with the pilots and medical personnel to ensure climbers are safely evacuated in a timely manner should the need arise.
Having a Helicopter Rescue Service On Kilimanjaro is reassuring for climbers, but it’s not an excuse to become complacent and neglect the proper safety protocols. It’s there as a last resort, not a reason to take unnecessary risks.
Our guides carry supplementary oxygen on every Kilimanjaro Climb, strictly for use in emergency situations.
Evacuations By Helicopter

Our helicopter will pick you up from the designated area on the mountain, where our medical team will immediately start an in-flight medical treatment. Upon landing at KIA/Moshi Airport there will be transport, to take you to your local residence. If you require further medical attention upon landing, you will be taken to our modern private High Altitude Medical clinic ideal for Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS).
Kilimanjaro SAR accepts insurance with Evacuation coverage up to 6,000 meters above Sea Level. Please be aware that coverage and eligibility requirements for this benefit differ by policy.
